Embodied Wisdom: Six Insightful Workshops with Dylan

About Dylan Bernstein

October 14th to 17th

Dylan is a KPJAYI & SYC level 2 Authorized Ashtanga teacher.

Dylan has been exploring various worlds of yoga since 1989. His intense curiosity brought him to study, practice and live worldwide. Having taught on five continents, Dylan continues to be influenced by many teachers and living wisdom traditions. The most inspiring inspiration comes from his inquisitive students.

He has lived in ashrams and monasteries throughout South Asia, East Asia and Europe, studying with the world’s most senior and historic teachers. He earned a Master Degree in Buddhist Studies in 2013. Currently he is spending his time studying ways of life in Africa and the Amazon.

A student of teaching techniques, Dylan has a background in pedagogy and cognitive development. His classes are designed to put students into direct contact with their own true internal teachers.

Yoga has never been limited to postures for Dylan and yet, he values the critical role that a physical practice can play in bringing light to one’s whole being. Essentially, Dylan remains a pluralist, believing in many kinds of truth and many manners of realisation. The interconnectivity so visible in Nature is a guiding light. Ashtanga yoga coupled with diverse stillness practices continue to be the bedrock of his life.

Workshop Schedule - October 14th to 17th

Surfing the Breath

October 14th Saturday at 11:00am- 13:30pm
Surfing the Breath

Discover how the bandha (internal energetic locks) can create a smooth, stabilizing flow of breath. Then allow that breath stream to guide you through asana practice with intelligence, safety and internal awareness. We’ll explore breath-based methods for practicing asana from the inside-out, from standing postures to jumping back and through. This transformation will be of incredible value for practitioners of any yoga asana, from Ashtanga purists to wildly creative Flow people to mellow Hatha traditionalists. All are welcome!

The Ancient Art of Adjustments

October 14th/16th Saturday
The Ancient Art of Adjustments Workshops
Workshop 1: Saturday, 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

It’s never been more important to stay aligned and heading in the healthy direction! Let’s learn how best to adjust individuals in a variety of postures. Just as no two bodies are alike, there are infinite variations of how any asana might be approached and modified. We’ll explore fundamental guidelines for adjusting as we discuss “for whom and when”. Dylan will unpack a tried and tested toolkit of techniques. Many people greatly benefit from live, human assistance. So let’s take the rare chance to develop our eyes, hands and voice in order to be of service to everybody. This workshop is open to all, including beginners, and involves discussion and asana practice (at times, practicing adjustments on a partner.)
October 15th Sunday at 11:30am- 14:00pm
Hand Balance, Handstand, Finding Stillness

Going upside-down is of critical importance. Having our perspective flipped can shed new light and bring us new energy! Explore with Dylan as we work towards handstand and a variety of interesting hand-balance postures. We’ll interesperce a variety of sitting meditative practice so that the entire workshop experience will feel refreshing and grounding.
October 15th Sunday, 15:30pm- 18:00pm
Backbends & Dropbacks: Strength and Safety

Learn and practice safe techniques for deepening your backbend practice. Everyone can learn an approach to dropbacks, even if you aren’t ready to go all the way to the floor. No one will be encouraged to go deeper than is comfortable in this informed and dynamic workshop. Injuries will be discussed, avoided and rehabilitated. Open to all.

October 17th Tuesday, 18:30pm- 20:45pm

Comprehensive Masterclass

Put all these dynamic elements together in a masterclass that explores Ashtanga and some variations. We’ll journey through a series of asana, based on breath awareness and bandha. Please do bring one question so that we can hope for an informative chat after practice.

Is this program for you?

Designed for all levels of practitioner, as we explore concepts not taught in regular classes so there is something for everyone to experience. We look forward to welcoming yogis of all backgrounds and experience levels to this enriching experience!
